Amazon's 3.5% FBA surcharge: small percentage, real annual bill

What changed — in 20 seconds
  • What: 3.5% fuel-and-logistics surcharge on every FBA fulfillment fee
  • When: Effective April 17, 2026 (Buy with Prime & MCF on May 2); no end date announced
  • Who's hit: All FBA, Remote Fulfillment, Buy with Prime, and MCF sellers
  • Impact: ~$0.17 on a $4.75 fee; roughly $18k–$42k/year for a 10,000-unit/month seller

In April 2026 Amazon added a 3.5% “fuel and logistics” surcharge to every FBA fulfillment fee in the U.S. and Canada — effective April 17, with Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment following on May 2. No end date was announced, and history isn’t reassuring: Amazon’s 2022 fuel surcharge never went away — it was folded into a permanent fee restructuring.

The math is sneaky because it’s charged on the fulfillment fee, not the sale price. On a standard item with a $4.75 fee, that’s about $0.17 a unit. Trivial in isolation — but for a seller moving 10,000 units a month, it’s roughly $1,500–$3,500 monthly, or $18,000–$42,000 a year, from a single line item.

It lands hardest on high-fee, low-price SKUs — the same band where hybrid fulfillment already wins. The operator’s response isn’t to complain about 3.5%; it’s to re-run the FBA-vs-FBM math on the affected SKUs and move the ones that now clear the bar to a third-party warehouse.

From our warehouse floor

“A surcharge on the fulfillment fee — not the sale — hits high-fee, low-price SKUs hardest. That's exactly the band where moving units to our own warehouses (FBM) beats paying the FBA premium.”
